ELK Studios released Book of Toro in 2021 as part of the anniversary of their smash hit, Wild Toro slot game. Wild Toro and the Wild Toro II slot came as huge successes, with the sequel expanding on the original characters, gameplay and features that players grew to love. Book of Toro Game Background

Book of Toro follows a classic slot machine layout with 5 reels and 3 rows, including a total of 10 different paylines. These paylines are actually labelled along the 2 sides of the playgrid with corresponding lines going across the grid when that payline is used for a matched combination; this is a feature seen in other UK slot games, just like Fishin’ Frenzy. 

For the visual layout of Book of Toro, the playgrid takes up most of the screen, with the background slightly in view on the left and the right. Each side of the background is decorated by Egyptian hieroglyph-covered pillars and a sarcophagus visible in the distance. Golden-patterned metallic designs are used over and around the playgrid, encasing the reels in place. The game title is held above the screen with shimmering metallic wings spreading from either side of the title card.

Book of Toro Slot Symbols

The Book of Toro has a wide range of symbols that function in dynamic and interesting ways. First, we will look at the standard game symbols that feature playing card imagery inspired by live casino games, along with more Egyptian-themed visuals like scarab beetles and the Eye of Ra.

Book of Toro Bonus Features

Starting off with one of the most basic bonus features in the game, Book of Toro features a standard wild symbol which can substitute for any symbol in Book of Toro except the Mummy symbol, meaning a wild symbol can be handy when trying to create a matched combination.

However, Book of Toro does include two different wild symbols, and there is a walking bull wild symbol which can only appear on the last reel of the playgrid and will move one reel to the left until he has reached the end of the grid. If a Mummy symbol lands at the same time as the Toro, a bonus feature called Toro Goes Wild is triggered, meaning the bull will charge and bash the Mummy off the playgrid, leaving a trail of regular wild symbols. 

Also, during this feature, any Book of Toro symbols that land become sticky. The Book symbol is also used as a scatter, making them highly valuable symbols. Landing between 3 and 5 can award the player with 10,15, or 20 free spins, respectively. 

At the beginning of the free spins bonus feature, a random standard symbol is chosen to expand, meaning if they create a matched combination, all expanding symbols will increase in size to cover all positions on their reel. These expanded symbols do not have to be adjacent to each other for matched combinations. If 3 books land during the feature, free spins are retriggered with an additional symbol chosen for an expanding symbol; three symbols can be selected as expanding symbols at most.

Landing 2 or more mummy symbols triggers Mummy Respins; these symbols lock into place for the next respin, and any more mummy symbols will also lock and award a respin. If a Toro Wild hits, this will activate the previously mentioned Toro Goes Wild feature.
